Obituary for Joseph L. Curreri

Joseph L. Curreri passed away on October 23, 2016. He was 91 years of age. Joseph L. Curreri was born in the Bronx to Leonard and Mary Cirincione Curreri. Graduated from James Monroe High School. Drafted in 1943 in the U.S. Army and served two and a half years in the 42nd Rainbow Division. He was wounded in action at the battle of Anzio, Italy. Graduated from New York University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters degree in Education. Taught six years in the Yonkers Public School system and thirty three and a half years in the Mount Vernon Public School system. His 6th grade class was the first recipient of the Mr. and Mrs. Cecil scholarships, where every child in the class was awarded a full four year college scholarship. Also, taught Adult Education Classes to foreign born students at night in Mount Vernon and was Director of Developmental Reading Program at Manhattanville College on Saturdays. He was Treasurer of the Mount Vernon Teachers Federal Credit Union for thirty years. He was a member of the Harry Modell Bowling League in Yonkers for many, many years.
He leaves behind, his wife Domenica with 63 years of a wonderful marriage. Also, a loving and devoted son, John and daughter-in-law Lisa and grandchildren Juliana, Joseph, Kayla and Adriana. Also, son Leonard (Lee) and daughter-in-law Sherry and grandsons Joseph and Samuel. He leaves behind a sister, Rose Marie Parisi and is pre-deceased by his brother John.
The family will receive friends at the WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC. EASTCHESTER Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Mass, Thursday at Annunciation Church at 10am. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
