I will forever cherish - Lo per sempre caro

I was privileged to get to know Domenic last year as I became very interested in his daughter, Gina.  Domenic and I had conversations about many topics but my two favorites are to follow.   So many times when I stopped by for a visit Domenic had a soccer game on the television.  He explained to me all about the Italian Soccer League in which he was a big fan of.  He also loved the art of gardening.  When he spoke to me of this he would be very detailed in his instruction as to how precisely one must prepare the soil, condition the soil, fertilize and cultivate.  His passion for gardening really showed!  I appreciate that, anyone who tills the earth to grow fruits and vegetables to feed not only his own family but also the famillies of his neighbors!  Domenic was well-liked in his neighborhood and all of those folks would certainly testify to that!   Just last night I listened to hs next-door neighbor tell me of when Domenic planted blue berry bushes for some of his neighbors in their own yards.  A lasting testament is that in many years to come his friends will continue to enjoy the fruits of Domenic's labor!   The biggest moment for me was when only a few short weeks ago Domenic gave to me his blessing to marry Gina, his daughter!  Domenic laid his hand upon my head and said i bless you in The Name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.  After the blessing we caressed and while we both shared tears of joy he said, "WELCOME TO MY FAMILY".  From this point forward I can call you Dad!  I will never forget that special moment with you.  I will forever cherish the times spent with you.  My one and only regret is that this was a short-lived friendship.  The Lord soon after called you home.  Dad, I am very proud of the fact that you welcomed me with open arms and an open heart!  Thank you Dad.  I love you!  Doug
