Joe was a silver lining for so many of us as we worked through the PhD program.  He brought his wit, charm, great humor, warm nature, and his enormous heart to everything and everyone he touched. Joe's eyes always had a shining smile in them, one that always made you feel that he was looking out for you and his way of conveying "everything will be alright" to you without saying a word.  Thank you for the many years of support, kindness and guidance.
